Activity 1: What to Post and Why It Matters


Objectives:
  • The learner will identify an example of how negative posting online has impacted someone professional life
  • The learner will make generalizations about irresponsible online behavior

Materials:
Computer and Internet Access

Build Background and Activate Prior Knowledge:
  • Students will discuss a time when they have witnessed inappropriate online behavior? (Examples: cyber bullying, inappropriate comments, or incriminating pictures)

Instructional Activity
  • Students will find news articles or news stories regarding inappropriate and irresponsible online posting that have had a negative impact on a person’s professional life
  • Students will find, read, and report on the story that they find in a brief 3-minute overview to the class

Informal Assessment:
  • The instructor and students will summarize the class findings and generate a list of what not to post. Students will put them into categories and students will make generalizations about what types of posts are bad.
